    Today, Saturday (February 24, 2024), the Ministry of Interior revealed the activation of the role of liaison officers with neighboring countries to combat drugs, while indicating that the ministry’s new strategy focuses on three main points.
    The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Miqdad Al-Moussawi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm,” that “the formations of the Ministry of Interior carried out a series of qualitative and important operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks during the past 72 hours, during which many defendants were arrested and large quantities were seized, in addition to the arrest of... "As an international trader, this is very important."
    He added, "Activating the intelligence effort and adopting a new strategy regarding the escalation against drug traffickers and their networks bore fruit within a short period, pointing to the start of activating liaison officers with neighboring countries, including Jordan, regarding the drug control file, as it constitutes a threat to all countries in the region due to the harm it causes."
    Al-Moussawi pointed out, “The new strategy of the Ministry of Interior, which focuses on three main points, including the intelligence dimension, will constitute an important scope in combating this scourge and tracking down its dealers in all governorates without exception,” stressing that “the coming days will be full of surprises in terms of qualitative strikes.”
    On Saturday (February 17, 2024), Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari confirmed that the ministry’s measures with drug traffickers were “harsh” and this year will be more “harsh” on them.
    Al-Shammari said, on the sidelines of his participation in the quadripartite meeting hosted by Jordan to discuss joint mechanisms for confronting and combating the drug phenomenon, according to a statement from his media office, received by “Baghdad Today,” that “the challenge with drug gangs last year was like a battle, and our measures were harsh on them, and we promise them that this will be the case.” "The year is more cruel."
    He added, "Drug crime is one of the most dangerous cross-border crimes and requires broad international cooperation," pointing out that "our participation today in this conference is part of this cooperation."
