The Basra Governorate Council confirmed today, Tuesday, its intention to take “strict decisions” to prevent the rise in prices and combat attempts to exploit citizens in the governorate as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
A member of the Basra Provincial Council, Sarah Al-Husseini, said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The council will implement a law that allows for the accountability of anyone who attempts to manipulate food prices during the days of the month of Ramadan.”
Al-Husseini added, "The Basra Governorate Council is striving to maintain the stability of food prices that citizens need."
She stressed, "The Basra Governorate Council is ready to take all necessary measures to maintain price stability and prevent any practices that negatively affect the livelihood of citizens."
The prices of food and basic commodities for the Iraqi people in local markets are witnessing a noticeable increase with the rise in the exchange rates of the dollar against the local dinar, which has caused great frustration among citizens. Ended/25 Q.
