    Information / Baghdad
The Strategic Center for Human Rights in Iraq warned today, Sunday, of the danger of the increase in foreign labor coming to Iraq.
The deputy head of the center, Hazem Al-Rudaini, said, “During the last three years, foreign workers have doubled significantly as a result of the security stability witnessed by the country and the urban movement, and this increase had negative effects on the level of increasing local unemployment because they entered the Iraqi labor market without planning, and many of them have problems with their legal status.” This employment is supposed to be exclusively specialized in the aspects that the local market lacks.”
He added, "The large number of housekeepers are of foreign nationalities, especially African ones, and this will also have social consequences in the future for Iraqi families because they carry cultures, customs and traditions that are completely different from our society. Therefore, leaving children under their care will introduce them to psychological problems between the customs and upbringing of the parents and foreign cultures."
He called on the Ministries of Interior, Labor, and Social Affairs to “implement Labor Law No. 37 of 2015, which regulates work inside Iraq for foreign workers, and that no foreigner has the right to work inside Iraq except after obtaining a license from the Labor Department.”
He called for "the necessity of imposing that housekeepers for officially licensed labor employment companies be local or Arab, or those who speak the Arabic language for foreigners, in order to protect Iraqi families from customs and traditions that are alien to our society." End 25
