     Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (March 20, 2024), an informed political source revealed persistent attempts led by embassies and consulates of foreign countries with the aim of dissuading the Democratic Party from retracting its decision to boycott the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told "Baghdad Today" that "representatives of 27 embassies and consulates visited the political office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and also met with the head of the party, Masoud Barzani, and the head of the region, Nechirvan Barzani."
He added, "The ambassadors and consul pressured the Democrat to reverse his decision, and Masoud Barzani received communications from the leaders of the first line of the coordination framework and the leaders of the State Administration Alliance."
He pointed out that "Barzani's words today during his meeting with the American ambassador are tantamount to a preliminary reversal of the boycott decision, and will be followed by a statement by the Political Bureau in the coming days deciding to participate in the elections, after they received notifications not to interfere further and put pressure on the region."
Earlier today, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, said during his reception of the American ambassador, that the elections were postponed for two years for various reasons, and foreign hands interfered in the matter and reduced the value and status of the region. They also changed the decisions and laws of the Kurdistan region in an unconstitutional and illegal manner and did injustice. Sects and the entire Kurdish people.
Barzani stressed that the Democratic Party did not boycott the elections, but was in favor of holding fair, transparent, and secure elections free of foreign interference and prior programs, and that voters were not deprived of voting and that the value of the democratic process was not diminished.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party had announced its withdrawal and boycott of the Kurdistan Regional elections scheduled to be held on June 10, in protest against the decisions of the Federal Court to abolish the quota seats, as well as the cancellation of some provisions of the Kurdistan Regional Elections Law.
