    Economy News - Baghdad
Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiyab Abdullah, revealed an Iraqi movement to resolve the water crisis with Türkiye and Iran.
Abdullah said in a televised interview followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that “Iraq is seeking to reach a clear agreement with Turkey regarding Iraq’s water share,” noting that “Iraq is working on preparing a draft memorandum of understanding with Turkey regarding the water file that will be signed during President Erdogan’s visit.” ".
Abdullah added, "We informed Iran of the necessity of coordination regarding the rivers that feed the Tigris," pointing out "Iran's demand to open the waters of the Karun River to improve the conditions of the Shatt al-Arab."
He continued, "The visit to Syria was successful and we reached an agreement to release water from the Tabqa Dam to the Euphrates River," stressing that "there is no water war, but there are disputes and disagreements."
Iraq is trying to exploit the overwhelming Turkish desire to establish an economic partnership with it and penetrate its investment market to benefit from its geographical location and oil wealth, in resolving the thorny water issue, which has become a dilemma for it that rises to the level of an existential threat due to the extreme scarcity of its water resources, for which Turkey bears a large part of the responsibility due to... The dams it built on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which supply Iraq with the bulk of the water it needs for use in drinking, agriculture and industry.
