Parliament: We are coordinating closely with Interpol to recover the corrupt fugitives

, a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Abdel-Amir Al-Mayahi, revealed new moves to proceed with amending the election law again, noting that Parliament is coordinating an agreement between the Iraqi and international Interpol to arrest fleeing corrupt people.
Al-Mayahi expected that “the political blocs will begin after months to amend the election law while merging the amendment with the provincial councils law,” noting that “political blocs are seeking to introduce the election law, according to what they see in the paragraphs of the law.”
Al-Mayahi added, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that “there were many proposals submitted to amend the law, and signatures were collected from a number of council members to amend the law, but the final result was that there were no clear steps to amend the law,” noting that “the blocs with the return of Mr. Muqtada Al-Sadr To the political process and participation in the government because the Sadrist movement is an integral part of the Iraqi people and the political process.”
He explained that “the representation of the Sadrist movement in the political field is important and provides political stability, and a clear message to all partners that the political process is taking place clearly, which means that it is correct that we do not accept early elections because the general situation is going smoothly,” considering the recent government steps, “directing towards providing services to all Governorates, in addition to steps in the areas of agricultural and industrial development that we have not seen before, as well as improving foreign relations.”
Regarding the procedures for recovering stolen money and fleeing corrupt people, Al-Mayahi said: “There is an agreement between the Iraqi Interpol and the international Interpol, to pursue any wanted person in any country, in an effort by the Iraqi Interpol to arrest the wanted persons and hand them over to the Iraqi government, and there is effective coordination with Interpol in this regard.” .
He added, “The Integrity Committee works independently and seeks to collect the required documents regarding those accused of corruption, and upon obtaining proof, the committee will work to request hosting the concerned official if he is present inside the country, while submitting recommendations to the relevant authorities.”
He continued, “The committee is not responsible for prosecuting individuals wanted on corruption charges outside the country, and it is the responsibility of the Federal Integrity Commission and the Iraqi and international Interpol if there are arrest warrants for specific figures of state employees who have committed corruption and of the Integrity Commission or the Public Prosecution.”
