    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Chairman of the Basra Governorate Council, Khalaf Lafta Al-Badran, announced today, Thursday (May 30, 2024), the opening of an employment office in every district in the governorate.
Al-Badran told “Baghdad Today” that he “met with the Director General of the Basra Oil Company, Bassem Abdul Karim, and a number of directors of the company’s bodies, to discuss the file of social benefits and the employment of the people of Basra in oil companies,” indicating that “the meeting came out with several results, the most prominent of which was the creation of an office.” For employment in every district in an oil field, there will be a representative of the local government and a representative of Basra Oil in the office.
He stated, "In all districts where the oil fields are located, the employment office will supervise the employment of Iraqi workers in these fields to ensure the presence of the correct percentages of workers in each area, which reach 80% of local workers."
Al-Badran explained, “The meeting resulted in the formation of a committee from the Provincial Council, which included a representative of Basra Oil, to ensure that social benefits are transferred to areas in need of them, and that any amount spent and any project referred will be with the approval of the Provincial Council, as it will set the policy for the benefits.”
He added, "The meeting proceeded with an agreement that there would be a regular meeting between the head of the security committee in the provincial council and the director of security permits for the purpose of issuing permits to oil companies with the approval of the council's security committee."
He pointed out, "An agreement was reached to continue holding periodic meetings between the Provincial Council, the Director General of the Basra Oil Company, and the advanced staff of the company to ensure the implementation of the outcomes of the monthly meetings."
The head of the Basra Provincial Council, Khalaf Al-Badran, held a meeting last Monday with the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, to discuss several files, including the file of social benefits and how to refer and complete projects, especially in areas close to oil fields, as well as another file related to employment.
