Air Defense Commander, Major General Pilot Muhannad Ghaleb Al-Asadi, confirmed on Sunday that the new command operations center recently opened by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces will control the entire Iraqi airspace, while revealing contracts related to radars and missiles that will arrive in Iraq this year.
Al-Asadi said in a statement, “The new Air Defense Command operations center includes a high potential to control Iraqi airspace with all types of military and civilian aircraft and any other targets,” noting that “the center will exercise real, complete command and control over Iraqi airspace.”
He added, “The center is considered a major supporter of the Civil Aviation Authority and Authority in Iraq and the General Company for Airport and Navigation Management, as well as full control in the future,” noting that “all weapons available to the Air Defense Command will confront any targets that require it at any time.”
He stated, “The capabilities of air defense are growing day after day, in accordance with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the priorities he gave to the leadership, with the aim of working continuously through the Ministry of Defense in coordination with major companies that manufacture equipment, systems, and weapons, which must be solid and have a long history in this field.”
He stated that “the leadership was able during this year to reach important agreements in the field of developing its capabilities in all aspects (equipment and weapons) and in terms of human resources by enrolling them in training courses to participate in real exercises with different aircraft,” pointing out that “there are two areas in these contracts.” The first concerns effective radar detection of Iraqi airspace, and now we are in the process of implementing a contract that was concluded some time ago, whereby significant numbers of low-detection radars with very high capabilities from very advanced companies will arrive in Iraq.”
He continued, “The other type of contracts relates to the field of armament, as there are numerous and diverse contracts with international companies related to arming medium-range and short-range missiles and systems for combating drones,” pointing out that “these contracts will see the light during the current year, and some of them will arrive in the quarter.” "The last of it."
Yesterday, Saturday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, opened the new Air Defense Command operations center.
