    The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, opened this evening, Sunday, (June 23, 2024), the second phase of the rehabilitation project for the historic city of Baghdad / Downtown Baghdad, which is the rehabilitation of the Al-Saray-Al-Qishla axis - towards Al-Midan Square, after its completion.
    A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, received by “Baghdad Today”, stated that “the completed project included the restoration and maintenance of the facades of heritage and historical buildings, the maintenance and rehabilitation of infrastructure systems and networks, the creation of a cultural, social and entertainment axis for walking, as well as the creation of the Saray Square, furnishing streets and lighting, and processing facilities.” Historical buildings and other civil works.
    Al-Sudani pointed out, during the opening, that “the work was done by Iraqi hands, through a specialized team, which focused on developing these important sites that represent the historical heart of Baghdad, and an important part of its political, cultural and social heritage.”
    Al-Sudani stressed, “Continuing to complete the project in its five stages, as part of the government’s endeavor to sponsor and support this file, and to enhance the national and historical touch and identity it represents for the city of Baghdad.”
    The Prime Minister also stated that “this region has actually begun to transform into a destination for tourists and a recreational area for the people and visitors of Baghdad, praising the contribution of the Baghdad Municipality and its cooperation in completing the project with the rest of the relevant ministries, the two endowment offices, the Central Bank of Iraq and the Iraqi Banks Association, and the allocated funds.” “Social benefits for completing the project,” stressing, “proceeding with the third phase, in order to give the city of Baghdad a new, bright image that represents its history and is consistent with its international reputation.”
