    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee commented, today, Monday (September 2, 2024), on the possibility of the Iraqi government succeeding in stopping the escalation between the American side and the Iraqi armed factions.
Committee member MP Amer Al-Fayez said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is a clear success for the Iraqi government in calming the security situation inside Iraq and stopping any escalation between the American side and the Iraqi armed factions. The government also played a calming role in the region as a whole due to its relations with all regional and international parties."
Al-Fayez said, "There is great confidence among the Iraqi armed factions in the current government and its ability to resolve the issue of ending the missions of the international coalition, and for this reason there is a response from those factions to stop any operations against the Americans, to prevent dragging Iraq into war and making it an arena of fighting," noting that "the government is continuing the process of dialogue and negotiation to end the foreign presence in Iraq."
Security expert Mukhallad Hazem confirmed on Thursday (August 22, 2024) that the truce that resulted from the government’s agreement with the factions to stop targeting American military headquarters and bases has ended .
Hazem said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The truce has broken down, and if there is an escalation from the American side, the reaction from the factions will continue against the bases and military headquarters of the American forces ."
He added, "No one knows what moves the American forces will make, and the targeting may not be known at the time, as happened in the bombing of Jurf al-Sakhar, but in general, the truce that was previously sponsored by the Iraqi government has ended, and the factions are now moving at any time and targeting any area where American interests are present ."
Prior to that, Haider Al-Lami, a member of the Political Council of the Al-Nujaba Movement in Iraq, stated that with the end of the truce, all options are available to the resistance to target American bases in Iraq, confirming that there is procrastination on the part of Washington during the talks with the Iraqi government regarding withdrawal from Iraq .
Al-Lami's statements came hours after Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that Iraq had succeeded in stopping Washington's response to the bombing of Ain al-Assad base, while indicating that regional tensions had postponed determining the timing of the withdrawal of coalition forces .
