    Economy News - Follow-up
In conjunction with the referral of the implementation of the ring road project around the city of Baghdad by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works for implementation, the Services and Reconstruction Committee in the House of Representatives indicated that the traffic congestion relief projects will serve the capital for a period of up to 15 years to come.
Committee member Ahmed Majeed Al-Sharmani said in an interview with Al-Sabah, which was followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the population growth in the capital, Baghdad, was one of the reasons for the traffic jams in the absence of public transportation that could alleviate this congestion.”
He added, "The government has previously launched projects to relieve traffic congestion that the capital, Baghdad, needs, by creating new roads, opening streets that were closed due to the security situation, and rehabilitating and paving others."
Al-Sharmani stressed that “the responsible authorities must take into consideration the annual population growth rate, which increases the number of cars on the streets, services and infrastructure, and prepare future designs in cooperation with international and specialized companies that can find solutions to reduce congestion in the capital.”
For his part, the Minister of Construction and Housing, Benken Rikan, explained in a statement that the project was divided into three sections, "The first is opening the track as a first phase from Kilo 21, the point of convergence of the Diyala River with the Police Canal, to Kilo 51, the point of convergence with the Dora-Yusufiyah Expressway, and it will be implemented by the Ministry's companies. As for the second section, it includes opening the track as a first phase from Kilo 51, Dora-Yusufiyah Expressway, to Kilo 77, the point of convergence with the Abu Ghraib Expressway, and it will be implemented by the Ministry's companies. The third section includes implementing the entire road from Kilo 77, the intersection of the Abu Ghraib Expressway, to Kilo 12 (New Sadr City), and the qualification of the companies will be announced next week."
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Construction and Housing had previously announced the referral of the implementation of the ring road project around the city of Baghdad.
