Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi announced that the international coalition began withdrawing from Iraq since the announcement of the joint statement between Iraq and the United States to end its mission, while he indicated that Iraq is still providing assistance to Lebanese displaced as a result of the current war.
Al-Awadi told the “Duty of Honesty” program, which airs on Al-Iraqiya News, that “what the Iraqi delegation in New York sensed through the 30 meetings held by the Prime Minister and the five days he spent there, is that things are heading towards escalation.”
He added, "Perhaps the results of the US elections will have importance for the stability of the region," noting that "political support for the Lebanese cause was at the forefront of the Prime Minister's meetings in New York."
He pointed out that "the Iraqi parties have maintained avoidance of escalation in light of the current crisis," stressing that "the Ministry of Interior has taken measures to facilitate the entry of Lebanese into Iraq even if they do not have the required documents."
He stated that "all Iraqi institutions will participate in providing assistance to the displaced Lebanese," noting that "when the crisis ends, the Lebanese will return to their country."
He pointed out that "Iraq is still providing assistance to Lebanese refugees as a result of the current war."
Regarding the announcement of the end of the international coalition mission, Al-Awadi explained that “the procedures for the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq began since the announcement of the joint statement between Iraq and America,” stressing that “dozens of American soldiers withdrew during the past three days from the Ain al-Assad base and there are preparations for the withdrawal from the third unit.”
He continued, "The coalition forces have begun to pack, inventory and dismantle the large and important institutions that can be dismantled," noting that "the Joint Military Committee is continuing its work to put in place the remaining arrangements and withdrawal payments."
He stressed that "after September 25, 2025, there will be a presence in the places agreed upon between the international coalition forces and Baghdad in Erbil," noting that "the coalition's mission in Iraq will end completely within a year."
