The Integrity Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives revealed today, Tuesday, that the law on recovering the proceeds of corruption is ready after completing its discussion by the Integrity Commission, and it is now before the Parliament Presidency awaiting a date to include it in the Council sessions.
Hadi Al-Salami, a member of the Integrity Committee, said in an interview followed by Mawazine News, that "the committee continues to follow up on a set of laws related to combating corruption and squandering public money."
He pointed out that among these important laws are: the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, the Integrity Law, the Financial Control Law, and the Public Prosecution Law, in addition to other laws aimed at combating illicit gains.
Al-Salami added that "the current legal system is considered effective tools for combating corruption, but some amendments may be necessary to ensure its more effective implementation."
He explained that "the Integrity Commission Law, for example, needs to be amended to overcome the obstacles facing the Commission during the implementation of its tasks, and these amendments are based on field experiences and practical challenges."
Al-Salami stressed that "Parliament regularly receives requests to amend laws from oversight bodies in a way that serves the public interest and enhances the efficiency of combating corruption."
He also pointed out that the committee continues to host ministers and officials to discuss the challenges they face in implementing anti-corruption policies and ensuring effective oversight of public funds.
