    Economy News - Baghdad

[rtl]In recent years, the General Company for Ports in Iraq has witnessed many cases of financial and administrative corruption, which affected its performance and the efficiency of its operations.[/rtl]
[rtl]Despite repeated monitoring and media reports indicating these violations, it seems that the various political parties continue to ignore this sensitive file.[/rtl]

[rtl]This neglect is attributed to the complexities of political interests and mutual benefits between influential officials and politicians, who may have direct or indirect influence in the management of the company.[/rtl]

[rtl]Although parliamentary committees and government investigations are sometimes formed, the results often remain far from serious implementation.[/rtl]
[rtl]Some analysts point out that the deliberate delay in addressing corruption files is due to fear of political or economic repercussions that may harm the interests of influential figures. This neglect arouses the resentment of citizens and employees alike, who believe that ongoing corruption hinders the development of ports and affects the national economy, especially in light of the heavy reliance on ports to facilitate foreign trade.[/rtl]
[rtl]This disregard comes at a critical time, as the country seeks to strengthen its economic capabilities and reform its government institutions, amid international and local pressure to combat corruption, which raises questions about the seriousness of the political parties in addressing this crisis.[/rtl]
[rtl]Independent MP Yasser Al-Husseini confirmed that political gains and interests were behind the political parties’ ignoring of the corruption file in the General Ports Company.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Hussaini said, "The Director General of Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, is accused of corruption during his time in power, as leaving him in office makes the responsibility fall on the political party supporting him, the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis, and the Prime Minister."[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "The minister, in addition to the prime minister, have combined their efforts to hold on to the aforementioned person accused of corruption, believing that there is no corruption in this file, while in reality they are certain that there is major corruption in the aforementioned institution."[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "Political gains were behind the blindness of many political parties and their ignoring of corruption files, one of which is the corruption file in the General Ports Company led by Farhan Al-Fartousi."[/rtl]
