Rand Paul offers to ‘un-suspend’ presidential campaign in exchange for newspaper endorsement
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Tuesday that he would “un-suspend” his presidential campaign in exchange for a “do over” in New Hampshire after a newspaper there expressed regret for endorsing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R).
In an editorial on Monday, the New Hampshire Union Leader Editor Joseph W. McQuaid explained that the paper would never have endorsed Christie if it had been aware that he would later support GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
“Boy, were we wrong,” McQuaid wrote. “Watching Christie kiss the Donald’s ring this weekend — and make excuses for the man Christie himself had said was unfit for the presidency — demonstrated how wrong we were.”
In a message posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Paul suggested that the paper’s endorsement could be his ticket back into the race.
“If they endorse me and declare a Do Over in New Hampshire I will un-suspend Happy #SuperTuesday,” Paul said.
