    [ltr]World Organisation for Animal Health announced on Tuesday that Iraq announced this week that six outbreaks of the avian influenza H 5 N 1 between mid-December and early February in the first appearance of the disease in about ten years.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The organization added that the Paris-based quoting the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture that the outbreak has killed nearly 720 thousand birds and that the majority of cases were in the farms and the number of deaths includes 77 101 birds with the virus, while the remainder was executed as a precaution.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The virus was detected in different parts of the country, including a town near the border with Turkey and another north of Baghdad, and two farms in southern Qadisiya.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The report pointed out the ministry to take measures to avoid the spread of the virus, including the imposition of quarantine and check out subject to the protection and destruction of animal products areas.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The ministry pointed out that the last outbreak of the disease in Iraq dates back to January 2006.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Iraq and the imposition in December, a ban on all imports of fresh and frozen poultry from France after reports of an outbreak of the disease. Iraq and expanded the ban in January to include 24 countries, including China and South Africa.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The first human case of the virus date back to 1997, when the virus spread to Hong Kong. Since it re-emerged in 2003 and 2004 spread the H5 N1 from Asia to Europe and Africa, causing injury millions of poultry and hundreds of people, many of whom died.[/ltr]
