Nijaifi, Ashton discuss updates in Iraq, Syrian crisis

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, and the Representative of the European Union, Katherine Ashton, discussed the updates in Iraq and the Syrian situation on Monday.
A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “Nijaifi received Ashton and the accompanied delegation where he stressed that the EU role is very important to Iraq in increasing cooperation in all aspects.”
“Nijaifi confirmed that Iraq is undergoing challenges due to the political disputes and the foreign interferences,” the statement added.
“Nijaifi emphasized the violations for the human rights especially by the Army forces that interfere in confronting the demonstrations,” the statement continued.
“Concerning Syria, Nijaifi assured the regional sectarian conflicts that develop due to the regional interferences in Syrian fight,” the statement mentioned, noting that “Nijaifi called to reach a political solution soon for the Syrian fight.”
“For her part, Ashton stressed that the EU seeks developing its relations with Iraq, confirming the importance of solving the disputes in Iraq through the dialogue,” the statement concluded.
