During the months leading up to the general election, the left leaning media continually harped on the idea that, because Donald Trump wanted to build a wall between Mexico and the United States, and because he wanted to deport individuals who had entered the country illegally, that the vast majority of Hispanic voters had a major problem with him.
However, as the polls indicate, this did not prove all that accurate.
While a larger percentage of Hispanics did vote for the Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton, this is not out of the ordinary. The vast majority of lower income minorities historically have always voted Democrat. However, unlike what the media made it out to be, there was no giant swing of Hispanic voters for Hillary Clinton.
So why did the Hispanic vote not come out heavily in favor of Hillary Clinton? A few reasons. First, those who are in the country illegally are not able to vote.
The other is that many of the Hispanic immigrants who are in the country legally do not like seeing illegal immigrants. It is difficult to move into the United States from Mexico. It takes a long time and is a drawn out process. Many people who move on to the United States will work towards the process over years and don’t want other people cutting lines to jump the border.
