ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Coalition airstrikes destroyed 168 ISIS oil tankers in Syria on Thursday, a $2 million loss in revenue, the Combined Joint Task Force announced on Friday.
“In the largest air strike of its kind to date, Coalition airstrikes destroyed a fleet of 168 ISIL oil tanker trucks near Palmyra,” reads a statement from the coalition.
The 68-member global coalition has targeted ISIS’ oil operations as part of their efforts to economically degrade the terrorist group. The coalition estimated Thursday's airstrike resulted in a loss of income of more than $2 million.
"The Coalition continues to forcefully prosecute the air war on ISIL revenue capability," said Col. John L Dorrian, coalition spokesperson. "When ISIL has access to large sums of money, they use it to conduct violent terror attacks against anyone who doesn't share their barbaric ideology."
