Just like you can’t mention guacamole without chips, we can’t think of summer without thinking of frozen desserts. Make your next ice cream break extra-special by starting with your favorite flavor of ice cream, then serving it on top of a crisp, just-made, still-slightly-warm homemade waffle cone. Making one is much easier than you think!

How to Make Waffle Cones How_To_One_022416_0598-300x401Step One: Make and Spread Batter

Start by making the batter for your waffle cone. Mix together flour, eggs, sugar, butter and milk to make your own waffle batter, or add oil and eggs to our Waffle Cone Mix. Preheat a nonstick waffle cone maker, then spread 1/4 cup of batter evenly across the waffle cone maker’s preheated grids. Using a small offset spatula, spread the batter evenly over the surface. Close the lid and cook for at least 1 minute before lifting the lid to check for doneness.

Close the lid and cook for at least 1 minute before lifting the lid to check for doneness. When the bottom is golden brown, remove it from the griddle. (If you prefer not to use visual signals, waffle cone makers often come with an indicator light, which signals when the waffle is complete.)

Allow the waffle to cool slightly, then lay it flat on a linen towel and use your fingers to slowly roll the fresh-baked waffle around the conical mold provided with the waffle cone machine. Hold the cone for a few seconds to set its shape, then set the cone on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining batter, if needed.

If you like, you can upgrade your cone by dipping it in chocolate and sprinkle mix. If you’re in the mood to really go the extra mile, serve it alongside your very own homemade ice cream!
