Clinton Veepstakes: Guess whose name just disappeared from the official DNC speaker’s schedule?
Organizers of the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia at the end of July released a speakers list on Friday with a few surprising omissions, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren who had been previously announced, leading some to speculate she is still in the play as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s running mate.
With the Republican National Convention set to begin next week in Cleveland, the DNCC released their own speakers list, featuring a powerful line-up including President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
But Warren, along with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and other contenders for the VP spot were nowhere to be found. The omission of Warren stands out after her name was leaked as the keynote speaker on July 12, — only to fail to be mentioned in the official press release from the DNC.
The addition of the popular Warren to the ticket would be a strong counter-move to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.
