Erbil: Turkish airstrikes against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas on border areas Iraq’s Kurdistan Region have caused damage to water supply resources of the villages near Mount Qandil. An official from the Directorate of Water and Sewerage of Warti area (36 km from the city of Rawanduz in northwestern Erbil) told BasNews that every time the Turkish warplanes bombard the area, they cause damage to the water supply network, particularly in Zargali village which has always been targeted. He noted that the village’s water supply has repeatedly been cut. The latest bombardment in the area left the village without water for nearly a month, he continued. The official stated that the government has now started repairing the water supply network of the area that is about 200 km long, explaining that the water directorate is also suffering from financial crisis and it cannot sometimes afford to repair the water supply system soon after it is damaged.
