The Wild are in the midst of their best season ever and for some that isn't good enough. They are now one point behind the Blackhawks still with a game in hand.

Remember back to last season when they could not win a game in January and February, which ultimately cost Mike Yeo his job.

They pulled it together just enough to squeak into the playoffs, which as you recall was more the Avalanche crumbling, than the Wild playing well.

Then the dismal first round series against Dallas where the Wild seemed to just go through the motions with no chance of winning the series.

The offseason saw the signing of Eric Staal and Chris Stewart, which was met with the feeling of more of the same old Wild. Bringing in a seemingly washed up Staal on the decline and Stewart, what can he bring to the table?

So now five and a half months into the season the Wild are challenging for top spot in the Central Division and Western Conference. They lose a few games to really strong teams in their buildings and the feeling of panic rushes through everyone's heads.

    Relax people!

The season is 82 games long, it is an unbalanced schedule with teams meeting each other at different stages of their own progression. The individual result means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

The Capitals just lost four games in a row and Alex Ovechkin had not scored in 10 straight games. Did they panic and say oh no, we can't win anymore, and just roll over for the Wild last night?

No, of course not and was the game easy for them to win last night? Again the answer is no, but they did earn a valuable hard fought 2 points with the win.

Capitals coach Barry Trotz spoke to his team after their California road trip where they lost all three games and he told them that they will be better through adversity.

You heard Bruce Boudreau say very similar things following his teams loss last night, that the things they are learning, will serve them well in April, May, and June. That is a coach who is confident in his team and his room.

So ease up on the complaining about the result of a meaningless regular season game, and look at the bigger picture with this year's Minnesota Wild.
