Wild Win for Jets on Sunday

Spotting a team a 4-0 lead is never a great way to plan for a win, in fact against most teams this is really bad idea. That's until you realize the Jets are basically icing a rookie and Byfuglien on defence along with a 6th and 3 AHL calibre players.

The Jets threw out this defence as their most recent bandaid for injuries.

    Melchiori - Byfuglien
    Stuart - Morrissey
    Strait - Chiarot

    Or something like that.

Whatever it was it was not long before the tire fire of talent burned brighter and bigger than the Jets hot hand around Dubnyk. Face it Jets fans, had the Minnesota goalie not been playing Pavelcian-like this game would have been over long before the end of the second period.

Before the game, if you were cruising social media you would have seen all sorts of comments, opinions and more on the eventual starting defence. However, none captured it quite like Brian of Arctic Ice Hockey:

In all honesty one would have to give Chiarot a pass last game as he rose to the challenge better than the other three and scored a nice goal. That however, does not change reality, they are the four horsemen.

In the continuing saga of 'curious Paul Maurice decisions' he pulled Hellebuyck after the second period and four goals allowed, the same as Dubnyk. The difference being Helleybuck had faced 35 shots and Dubnyk 12.

Maurice's response was that he did not like the third and fourth goals allowed. I'm not sure what he was watching before those goals but I don't think too many Jets fans liked the play around the net before those goals either. Does a drunken, blind fire drill sound enticing? No, well that's what the Jets were trying during those two scoring sequences.

In the end the Jets were outshot 48-21 and came away with a 5-4 win as Josh Morrissey sneaked one past Dubnyk thanks to a deft Patrik Laine screen. The rodeo after ensued and when you had thought you'd seen enough of the poor officiating from that game, Dustin Byfuglien gave the officials not choice but to give a late game PP to the Wild when he did this:

Somehow the Jets came away with the two points and the Wild left speechless after that strange game. It was the first victory for the Jets over the Wild this season but does it cost them more in the long run now that they are so far from making the post season?

This game simply showed the failings of the franchise in a nice 60 minutes of game play.

    Forward depth
    Scoring ability
    Strong goaltending
    Thorburn is fiiiiiighting!

    Defensive struggles
    Communication challenges
    Spotty goaltending

What the hell is going on
    Crazy coaching decisions
Where is defence help after 6 drafts and off seasons?

    Hahahah the Jets are lucky
    Thank god we got Morrissey
    Strait redeemed himself
    Hutchinson should play more

    Turkse Nooooorth!!!

There dear reader is the ebb and flow of the game and the general take away after. It's the game, season, and six years of history all rolled into 60 minutes. Good luck fixing that in one off season.
