The North Korean ambassador to Russia said on Thursday that his country would launch a "merciless blow" in retaliation for any US provocation, after Washington announced its military buildup following the launch of a North Korean missile.
"Our army has already announced: If there is any American provocation during military maneuvers, we are ready to strike mercilessly," Ambassador Kim Hyong-joon told a meeting in Moscow.
Pyongyang conducted a new missile test this week, two days after joint military exercises between South Korea, Japan and the United States, to counter the threat of the launch of strategic North Sea missile submarines by North Korean submarines.
The missile was launched ahead of a summit between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping this week, likely to discuss putting more pressure on North Korea to curb the development of its weapons.
