    Baghdad (NINA) – Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki affirmed Iraq's position supporting political solution in Syria and its opposition to military action.

    Meeting with US Ambassador to Iraq, Robert Beecroft, on Thursday, Aug. 29, who visited the Prime Minister's Office enquiring about Iraq's official position toward military action in Syria, Maliki said that Iraq is worried of dangerous complications that might occur, in the area, because of any military intervention in Syria, according to a statement by Maliki's Office.

    It added that stress put on the necessity for increased consultation and coordination between Iraq and the US on all levels.

    Informed sources affirmed that US President Barak Obama, is considering launching limited attack against the Syrian regime, at the time intense consultations under way between western countries over possible military action in response to a supposed chemical attack on Aug. 21, in the outskirts of Damascus.

    The Washington Post quoted senior US officials saying that the American strike, comes in response to a chemical attack, will not last more than 2 days to spare the US from getting more involved in the ongoing 2-year old struggle in the country.

    For his part, US Secretary of Defence, Chuck Hagel, affirmed on Tuesday that the American Armed forces is ready to immediately move into Syria if President Obama ordered so.

    In an interview with the BBC, Hagel said, "We have moved military force to be able to carry out any order the President issues.

    Sources attended a meeting between western envoys and opposition Syrian Alliance, held in Istanbul, said that western official informed the Syrian opposition that a strike against Assad's forces is expected to take place within days. / End.
