Wasit province finished planting more than 100 thousand acres of summer crops within the agricultural plan for the current year, while Diyala province provided sufficient water resources for agricultural areas.
The media and relations official in the Directorate of Agriculture Wasit Ali al-Morshed said in a statement to "Al-Sabah": that his department finished the cultivation of more than 100 thousand acres of crops within the current summer season, by relying on the main sources of water from the Tigris River and Nazim Gharaf branch of the Euphrates River, Noting that these areas included the cultivation of 55 thousand acres of yellow maize and 45 thousand acres of sun flower and white corn and cotton, especially that these areas are few compared to the area of arable land amounting to two million and 662 thousand acres.
The province of Wasit is one of the most distinguished provinces in the agricultural production of various winter crops and summer for the fertility of its territory and its geographical location where the Tigris River on three sides, making them a peninsula.
For his part, director of water resources in Diyala Engineer Muhannad al-Mamouri said in a statement to "Sabah" that the amount of water sufficient to cover the agricultural land within the current summer season, which is more than 35 thousand acres, indicating that the reservoirs in the dams and lakes comfortable.
He pointed out that the water reservoir in Lake Hamrin is estimated at 1 billion and 250 million cubic meters, while the estimated reserves of Darbandikhan dam are about 2 billion cubic meters. This is enough to cover the planted areas even with the start of the winter season. It is useful that the Directorate has developed systematic plans to distribute water quotas .
