A car raided a crowd in Los Angeles on Sunday and wounded nine people, one of them in critical condition, but it was not clear whether the incident was deliberate, US authorities said..
The Los Angeles Fire Department said in a tweet on Twitter that eight people were taken to hospitals after the incident at the West Pico Boulevard.
A ninth person was injured but his injuries did not require him to be taken to hospital, she said.
The fire department said a 44-year-old man was in critical condition.
Three others were seriously wounded and the other four were moderately wounded, she said.
NBC television said the car was van and that the driver remained at the scene.
The fire department did not say whether the incident was intentional.
Terrorists carried out car attacks on passers-by last year in Britain, France, Germany, Israel and Sweden.
A man in a van last month also targeted worshipers as they left a mosque in London.
Elsewhere, the authorities said 12 inmates escaped from a prison in the state of Alabama on Sunday and six of them are still at large, including two prisoners on charges of attempted murder.
The Walker County police chief said on Facebook the inmates had fled the provincial jail. No details were available as to the timing of their escape or how to speak.
