Russia accuses "competent organs" of some countries of supporting terrorists

Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nipinzia, has confirmed that Moscow has certain information about the involvement of competent organs of some countries in supplying weapons to terrorists in the Middle East.

During the Security Council session devoted to counter-terrorism issues, Nibenzia noted that private companies in situations of armed conflict in the region "do only what governments allow them to do."

"Moscow has enough information from reliable sources to identify those who are helping unfair traders and even to organize arms supplies to terrorists," the Russian official said. This is done by relevant organs of some States, including competent bodies. If necessary, we are ready to provide such concrete information. "

Nippensia's comments came after the UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution by Egypt that would prevent terrorists from acquiring light weapons.

The Russian delegate regretted that the resolution did not include some of Moscow's proposals, including the initiative on imposing a "comprehensive economic and trade blockade" on the areas controlled by the "Daash". He added that Russia's proposals to tighten controls on arms circulation in the region "again collided with stubborn resistance" by some members of the Security Council.

"We do not understand the reason for that situation and what interests it justifies. We lose the possibility of a joint and effective decision, and we waste time, while terrorists exploit this situation and retain their combat capabilities, and rely on continued support from those who secure cover, including from government bodies.
