    The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that the decrease in water levels in the Iraqi marshes is due to several reasons, including the natural increase in temperature levels. The other reason relates to unfair excesses on water quotas and failure to comply with the ministry's
    summer plan .
    "The decrease in the water levels in the Iraqi marshes is due to several reasons, including the natural increase in the temperature of Iraq, which resulted in an increase in the evaporation rate from the water bodies to more than (1) 4 billion cubic meters over the past two and a half months. "
    "The other reason relates to unfair excesses on water quotas and non-compliance with the ministry's summer plan, in addition to the decrease in water revenues coming to Iraq, which caused the shortage of water reserves by 6 billion cubic meters compared to last year," the statement added.
    "The needs of the marshes are of equal importance, and in no way can Iraq's obligations be violated within the relevant international conventions, particularly the Ramsar Convention for the Protection of Wetlands," the ministry said. Wetlands or the World Heritage Convention, as well as the economic, social and environmental services provided by the Marshlands to society. "
    "The ministry is keen on the sustainability of the marshes and calls on concerned authorities, local authorities and society to play their role in preventing abuses, criminalizing overfishing and adhering to the Ministry's directives to ensure the equitable allocation of water quotas,

    The Chairman of the Committee to revive the marshes in the province of Dhi Qar, Abdul Rahman al-Tai in a statement earlier, allocated 80 billion dinars within the budget for the current year to revive the marshes after the accession to the World Heritage List, and called on the federal government to accelerate the launch of these allocations for the purpose of supporting the management of the marshes and improve Services.
    On Sunday (17 July 2016), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) agreed to annex the marshes and archaeological areas to the World Heritage List after all members voted in favor. According to UNESCO's decision, the marshes and archeological sites listed on the World Heritage List are Ur, Aridu, Hor Al-Hammar, Hawarwiza and the Middle Marshlands of Dhi Qar and Maysan, Warka in Muthanna and Hor Al-Hamar Al-Sharqi
    in Basra.
