National unity requires moving away from hate speech

     d. Ali Kazem Al-Rafi'i

Sheikh Mahdi al-Khalisi, who returned to Iraq long after a long trip led him since the seventies of the last century to Iran and Syria to land in Britain, the secular European country, returned to exercise his role as an Islamic advocate interested in preaching and advising and guidance to Muslims in Iraq by calling them to unite against the invitations that differentiate Including a blessed invitation. But in his sermon in Kadhimiya last week, he ignored the fact that Iraq, along with the Muslims, the majority, has followers of other religions, some of which Islam recognizes.
The difficult stage in Iraq requires the unification of the ranks of Iraqi Muslims and others. It is imperative that the religious discourse be moderate in a spirit of tolerance and focus on the principle of citizenship that strengthens the belonging of the Iraqi individual to his country, which is subjected to a brutal barbaric attack by an organization that takes cover of Islam that seeks to destroy the history of humanity And civilization of Mesopotamia, which lived in the hands of different peoples and religions before and after Islam. We agree with Sheikh al-Khalisi that those who raised the banner of Islam from political parties that took power have harmed Iraq and its people and brought the majority of Iraqis, especially young people, to a state of despair and rejection of religious invitations because of their failure and corruption. This reality requires in return an alternative to politicians and clerics loyal to their country and their children who did not pollute their hands with corruption, whether Muslims or others.

Who demonstrated in the cities of Iraq against the corruption of leaders in political parties of Islam, civilians and secularists and demanded a civil state, mostly Muslims, did not raise slogans against religion and were not affected by the calls of infidelity and atheism. The demands were a fair service aimed at reforming the economic and political situation in the country. This is a fact that I, as one of the advocates of the civil state, must address, even though Sheikh al-Khalisi has ignored it.
As for secularism, which he said was "exported from the West" and meant "infidelity and atheism", it was the concept of the income of the field of thought in modern times in the European society. The view differed, and therefore its practical application differed in the West. To the separation of religion from the state, and this proposal historical reasons associated with the history lived by Europe for many centuries, was dominated by feudalism and the Christian Church, which merged between religious authority and politics and lived the peoples of Europe in ignorance and backwardness until the parliamentary reform in England to begin the era of democracy, Which adopted the Logos of Brothers and Equality and took the concept of secularism and ended the rule of the
    Church.
Likewise, the Muslim peoples lived under the rule of the Umayyads and most of the Abbasid rule, as well as the period of backwardness that characterized the Ottoman rule. We do not want to go into this aspect, which requires more space and time than we are currently facing.
Have you seen or touched in this secular country an attack or violation of religious freedoms, which are the elements of personal freedom that Sheikh Al-Khalisi referred to? What is the number of Mosques, Husayniyat, preachers and Islamic research centers in this country? Have you been exposed to churches and religious centers of other non-Christian religions? And why secularism in Western countries and Britain, the most important is personal freedom and respect for the opinion of the other, but when you are in other countries, such as Iraq, be infidelity and atheism ?? Secularism, which has adopted the concept of separation of religion and state, respects human rights and beliefs and respects the will of peoples in their religious, political and economic choices through democratic methods.
The danger facing Muslims today is the religious and sectarian extremism currently plaguing the countries of the Middle East, which has spread to Western countries, in addition to the Islamic political sectarianism (quotas), which led to financial and administrative corruption at very high levels. We should not go back to Iraq in the 1960s, when Iraq experienced political conflict and various religious and national pretexts - Sheikh al-Khalisi lived during that period - a period in which Iraqi blood was wasted unjustly and aggressively by adopting immature political positions as enemies of peace.

The fight against infidelity and atheism is through proper religious education and methods that are in line with the requirements of the current era through intellectual dialogue and the adoption of science and respect for the other opinion, not with provocative and hateful views and lead to the disruption of the national class, which we need to strengthen more than ever before, and this Was called by the religious authority in Najaf, the language of its representative Sheikh Mahdi Karbalai, when he called in the Friday sermon, the eighth of September to strengthen the foundations of citizenship among the people.
