Minister: Iraq continues in talks with Majnoon oil field with Shell

Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi said on Sunday talks were continuing with Royal Dutch Shell over the Majnoon oil field, which the company is reportedly willing to withdraw from.

"Shell announced the withdrawal from the field of Majnoon, but so far there are negotiations, and things are not clear .. We have not conducted any negotiations with other companies."

A letter signed by al-Allaibi on August 23 gave approval for Shell's withdrawal from Majnoon, a major oilfield near Basra that began production in 2014.

Last year, industry sources told Reuters Shell was considering selling its stake in Iraqi oil fields as part of a $ 30 billion global asset exit program.
