This came hours after Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi confirmed that the elections would be held on schedule.
The office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by Al-Mada that the latter "confirmed during the receipt of the voter card from a voter center in Baghdad that the elections will be held on a constitutional date, contrary to what a number of politicians speak."
Al-Abbadi said that he "handed over the voter card today and called on citizens to review the centers to receive their electoral cards and participate in the elections."
Political sources have revealed to the (extent) recently on the efforts of political blocs to postpone the parliamentary elections by addressing the Federal Court, stressing that the atmosphere is ripe for the scenario of postponement.

The President of the Republic, in a statement received by (range), "the need to raise them the tasks of their work to the fullest." He stressed the need to complete the legal and security requirements necessary to ensure the holding of the upcoming elections on time, in reference to the priority to move forward in strengthening the democratic process to achieve the aspirations of our people with justice and equality and respect for his will and strengthen unity.
The President of the Republic that "the holding of democratic and fair elections is an essential task of the new Council of the Commission," asserting "the support of the Presidency of the Council of the new commissioners in the discharge of his responsibilities."
In the meantime, the Electoral Commission announced the start distribution of biometric voter cards in Baghdad.
"The distribution of biometric cards will begin in Baghdad province with its sides Karkh and Rusafa starting today (Monday)," the statement said. She revealed "a media plan to raise awareness and urged citizens to receive these cards after the Council of Ministers counted one of the required documents in the official circles."
The Commission pointed out that "the distribution of these cards began in the central provinces, and will start the southern provinces distribution operations mid-next week, after all of those cards from the company contracted by UNHCR to Iraq."
"Two of the first short-term cards to be delivered to the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 births were not printed," the UNHCR said. "They did not review voter registration update centers opened since the beginning of this year because their data is only with no picture of their identity. Which will be handed over to voters who have reported their statements during the said period, which enabled the staff of the Commission to confirm their data and take a personal picture proved in the card to participate in the provincial elections and parliament, which is expected to take place in May next year.
