Corruption pursues officials of "Ona Oil" operating in Iraq
The "Serious Fraud Office" accused two executives of Iraq's global oil company Una Oil of corruption after a criminal investigation into alleged bribery in the energy industry.
According to a report in the British newspaper "The Guardian" recently, "Ziad Aql," who lives in London, and "Basil Jarrah," the city of "Hall", accused of conspiracy to pay money to secure corrupt contracts in Iraq.
The charges were the first to come from an investigation into alleged corruption by France-based oil and gas company Monaco.
The Serious Fraud Office is also trying to hand over a third man, Saman Ehsani, from his home in Monaco to face similar allegations. Omar, 43, was the commercial director of Ona Oil. He was not charged with any crime.
The office announced that it began the investigation of "Una Oil" in March last year, following the publication of reports by Fairfax Media and the Huffington Post on the basis of hundreds of thousands of internal emails and documents.
"It continues to investigate the allegations surrounding the first. Last year, the Treasury Department provided special funding to pursue the investigation.
The office, Akal, 42, was described as the director of the Una Oil province of Iraq and the 68-year-old surgeon as Iraq's Ona Oil partner.
The surgeon was charged with conspiracy to pay amounts in contravention of the 1977 Criminal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1906. He faces one charge for the same crime.
According to the office, the charges relate to alleged corrupt conduct within Una Oil between June 2005 and August 2011, involving the client of Una Oil, the Dutch company, "IBM Offshore".
Both Ona Oil and IBM declined to comment. Onewell previously denied involvement in bribery, describing the allegations as "malicious and destructive." The company also said that "some of the information that formed the basis of the allegations against it was collected as a result of criminal activity, including extortion."
He is scheduled to represent Akl and the surgeon, before the Westminster District Court in London on December 7.
Last year, Una Oil launched legal action against Médecins Sans Frontières, claiming that the anti-corruption agency abused its powers illegally.
"Investigators working for the Serious Fraud Office have illegally attacked its headquarters in Monaco and seized a large cache of documents, telephones and computing equipment in a cavalry manner," the lawyers of the Supreme Court said.
