America is ready to approve Assad's presidency until 2021
The New Yorker newspaper quoted American and European officials as saying that the White House had agreed to the continuation of Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian presidency until the next election in 2021.
The newspaper said that "this decision may cancel all previous statements made by the White House on the need for the departure of Assad as a first step towards peace."
The newspaper also confirmed that "Washington's new position reflects the limited options of the US administration in the current situation, as a result of the military victories achieved by the Syrian army and its allies."
At the same time, the paper did not provide any official documents on the news.
The newspaper said that "the United States has spent more than $ 14 million on the campaign in Syria, the realization of the US administration that Assad will continue to govern until the elections scheduled in 2021."
According to the newspaper, the US leadership fears the victory of Assad and his continued in power.
Diplomatically, Washington has been isolated by a strong tripartite union of Russia, Iran and Turkey, who lead the peace process, after the failure of the Geneva negotiations to replace it with the Astana negotiations.
