[ltr]US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Seelman said Tuesday that the United States will provide an additional $ 75 million to stabilize Iraq.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The US government will provide $ 75 million in additional funding to help stabilize Iraq after it has been completely liberated from an up-and-coming organization," Sulliman said in a statement to the US embassy in Baghdad.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The United States plans to provide a total of $ 150 million for stabilization efforts in 2018, bringing the total US contribution to $ 265.3 million by 2015," he said.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Our commitment to the Iraqi people does not end with the elimination of an oppressor. The people of the liberated areas now face the enormous challenge of rebuilding their lives and restoring their cultural heritage," he said. "These funds will help restore basic services such as water and electricity so that Iraqi families of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to return to their homes - safely, voluntarily and with dignity. "[/ltr]
[ltr]"These funds will be provided to the United Nations Development Program through the United States Agency for International Development, where 24 international donors are supporting the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for stability, which is managed in close cooperation with the Government of Iraq at the federal and local levels."[/ltr]
[ltr]"With its new funding, the Stabilization Program will continue to help the people of the liberated areas to return to their homes and resume their normal lives by restoring services such as water, electricity, health and education," Silliman said.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The Stabilization Program also supports temporary employment through the pay-for-work program as well as grants to small businesses to promote local economies," he said. Part of the additional US funding announced today will address the needs of vulnerable ethnic and religious minorities, In particular those who have been victims of the brutal acts of a sympathetic organization.
