he Pentagon announced that the extradition of the first Guantanamo Bay detainee under US President Donald Trump to a third country would soon take place in Saudi Arabia.
"We hope the extradition will take place as soon as possible," said Defense Department spokeswoman Sarah Higgins.
The deadline for the extradition of Ahmad al-Derbi was scheduled for February 20, but the United States overtook him for demanding some "guarantees" about the prisoner's detention.
Derby was admitted to a US military court in 2014 for his guilt and involvement in the attack on the French oil tanker Limburg in 2002 off the coast of Aden, and in return for his testimony he was sent to the "rehabilitation" program of former fighters in Saudi Arabia.
Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Hazza al-Darbi, a 43-year-old Saudi citizen, was referred to an extraordinary military court at Guantanamo Bay in 2014 on charges of planning an attack on a French tanker that killed a Bulgarian sailor and wounded 12 crew members.
