The parliamentary legal committee confirmed on Thursday that the postponement of provincial council elections will cost Iraq 200 billion dinars, indicating that the date of their determination is in the court of the government and the Commission.
"Some blocs and the government have agreed to hold local elections on time with the parliamentary elections in May to reduce the cost of holding elections," said member of the legal committee Kamel al-Zaidi.
He added that "the Commission announced that it was unable to hold them together and demanded the postponement of local elections," noting that "the postponement of local elections will cost Iraq about 200 billion dinars."
He explained that "the House of Representatives voted to authorize the government and parliament to determine the date of the new local elections and expressed his opinion to be conducted by the end of this year."
He pointed out that "the ball is now in the playground of the government and the Commission in the determination of a new date for provincial elections, which has not yet been discussed."
