Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari concluded his visit to the Russian capital Moscow, stressing "the rejection of the presence of US military bases in Iraq."
Al-Jaafari met with the ambassadors of the Arab countries accredited in Moscow. During the meeting, he reviewed the overall security and political developments in Iraq and the efforts exerted to contribute to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraqi cities.
They also discussed the challenges facing the region and stressed the need to intensify dialogues to overcome the crises experienced by the entire region.
Jaafari visited the Grand Mosque of Moscow and met with the head of the religious administration of the Muslims of Russia, the Grand Mufti Sheikh Rawi al-Din. The two sides discussed the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Moscow and the importance of strengthening them to serve the interests of the two friendly countries. , And the dissemination of a culture of dialogue, cooperation, tolerance and human concepts.
Jaafari said in a press statement at the end of his visit: "The Iraqi government Amina, and a pledge to abide by the sovereignty of Iraq, and we do not deal with the issue of sovereignty."
"The presence of US military bases depends on the sovereignty of the country," he said. "The specter of bases in Korea, Turkey, Japan and many other countries of the world, even after the end of the Second World War, remains the basis of these rules."
"When we asked for assistance, I addressed a speech in 2014 in the Security Council that this assistance does not turn into building bases, but helps in a way that preserves Iraq's sovereignty and independence and does not remain permanently," Jaafari said.
He stressed that "the sovereignty of Iraq is a red line can not be exceeded, and can not be compromised, and this is the case of the State of Iraq, which is greater than any Iraqi government."
"The visit to Moscow was aimed at deepening the Iraqi-Russian relations and achieving the best results that are reflected on both countries. We discussed various files of a political, economic, security, social and cultural nature.
