{International: Al Furat News} Sources familiar with the reason for the decision of US President Donald Trump to overthrow Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Differences over how to deal with North Korea's nuclear file were key to Trump's decision to dismiss his foreign minister, the sources said.
The sources told Reuters that Tillerson had supported talks with North Korea from the start, angering Trump, who wanted to keep the maximum pressure on Pyongyang before responding to an invitation to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The sources said it raised fears that Tilerson may be too inclined to make concessions to North Korea.
"This position must be fully trusted," a senior US official said.
The source said Trump spent time over the past weeks in devising a plan to change Tilerson, bringing CIA Director Mike Pompeo to the Foreign Office and Gina Haspel, deputy director of the agency, replacing Pompeo.
The formation of the team before proceeding with negotiations with North Korea was a key objective.
Trump and Kim pledged to hold a meeting at a time and place to be determined before the end of May to discuss North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
In a sign of disregard, Tillerson did not know about the invitation to meet Trump and Kim, and was on his first trip to Africa when Trump met at the White House with a visiting delegation from South Korea late on Thursday and agreed to meet the North Korean leader.
White House officials said Trump had told White House chief of staff John Kelly the next day to tell Tilerson he had to resign.
A source said Kelly tried to keep Tilerson as long as possible but Trump was fed up with Mel Tilerson's opposition to a number of issues and told friends he was about to be fired.
Tillerson, then in Nairobi and visiting Chad and Nigeria, asked to return to the United States first before announcing his dismissal.
Hours before Tillerson returned to Washington on Tuesday, Trump announced on Twitter that Tilerson would change and that Pompeo would replace him.
State Department officials said Tillerson did not know why he was ousted and one of them, Steve Goldstein, was sacked later on Tuesday after contradicting the White House narrative.
Tillerson, whose term ends on March 31, returned to the State Department on Wednesday to hand over responsibility to his deputy John Sullivan and meet top officials, a State Department official said.
The official said Peter Tillerson, senior staff member of Tillerson and her deputy, Christine Chikone, had resigned.
It was not immediately clear whether Brian Hook, chief policy officer for the Tillerson team, would remain in office after March 31.
