The Republican senator, Senator Rand Paul, has said he intends to oppose Trump's appointment of Mike Pompeo as secretary of state and Gina Hasbell as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, which will hold Congressional appointments in which Republicans have a slim majority.
"I am disturbed by the nomination of people who supported the Iraq war and are now calling for war with Iran," CNN quoted Paul as saying.
"Their support for the Iraq war and the joy of Gina Haskell's use of waterboarding tactics has led us to move against her candidacy," he said. "How can we trust a person like that to be a director of the Central Intelligence Agency because just using this hideous method of torture is horrific."
