announced a US judge, about the possibility of filing a lawsuit against his country 's head of Donald Trump , because of the recent receipt of gifts from foreign governments.

A US federal judge has sued US President Donald Trump for gifts from foreign governments.

CNN reported on its Web site on Twitter that the judge announced that he would be allowed to sue Trump for illegally receiving gifts from foreign governments through his family's work.

A US legal watchdog says it will file a lawsuit against the US president because, it says, it violates a constitutional ban on accepting funds paid by foreign governments through hotel guests and rents to some of its buildings.

The United States Constitution provides that no federal official may receive gifts or fees from a foreign government.

But Trump's lawyer says that the article in the Constitution is intended only to prevent federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign authorities and not to apply to payments such as hotel accommodation fees.

Payments from foreign governments to profit-making companies to Trump have drawn criticism from constitutional and moral experts who say they place Trump in violation of the US Constitution, which prohibits the president from receiving "bonuses" from foreign governments.

Rewards in this context are valuable money or gifts.

The governments of Kuwait and Azerbaijan have already hosted events at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, and the State Audit Office said it would check whether Trump made any payments to the Treasury Department of the profits his hotel had received.
