WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The help of President Donald Trump's national security adviser resigned on Wednesday, the White House said, making it the third senior official to leave the National Security Council since John Bolton took office.
Nadia Shadlow resigned after less than three months in office, after playing a key role in developing the latest US national security strategy.
"The administration thanks Dr. Shadlow for her services and leadership in formulating the president's national security strategy," White House spokesman Raj Shah said.
"The strategy laid solid foundations for moving forward in protecting our country, strengthening US sovereignty, maintaining peace through force and strengthening American influence," he said.
The National Security Council was formed to govern between the foreign and defense ministries and many US intelligence agencies, but it often plays a bigger role by engaging in policy formulation within the White House.
Schadlow's resignation comes in the wake of other similar moves, notably the resignation of Paul Bosert, Trump's internal security adviser and National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton.
Bolton, a US ambassador to the United Nations, is one of the neoconservative neo-conservatives who began his work this week and appears to be carrying out internal clean-ups, although the White House is in a crisis that could lead to military strikes against Syria.
