Riyadh: We will make a nuclear bomb if Iran resumed its program
Saudi Arabia has threatened to "build a nuclear bomb" if Iran resumed its nuclear program, renewing its call to the international community to address what it called "the danger of Iranian policies to international peace and security."
"If Iran restarts its nuclear program, Saudi Arabia will make a nuclear bomb," Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair said, stressing that "his country will do everything in its power to protect its security and face the Iranian threat," according to CNN.
"As Iran has nuclear capabilities, we will do everything in our power to do that," he said.
The minister expressed the support of Saudi Arabia and its allies in the region for the recent decision taken by US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran.
"Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan support the US decision to withdraw from this agreement," al-Jubair said.
He criticized the Saudi foreign minister, the agreement signed with Iran, saying that "does not limit its influence in the region, does not address the development of ballistic missiles."
He pointed out that "Iran has been using the money obtained for the activities of destabilizing the region," without further details.
Al-Jubeir called on the international community to "address the threat of Iranian policies to international peace and security".
Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of possessing an expansionist project in the region and interfering in the internal affairs of Arab states, a charge Tehran denies, saying it is committed to good-neighborly relations.
Minutes after Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran, the Saudi foreign ministry announced its support for the resolution and stressed that it "supports the re-imposition of economic sanctions on Iran that have already been suspended under the nuclear agreement."
