    Baghdad Today - Sulaymaniyah
Kurdish politician Latif Al-Sheikh spoke today, Monday (November 18, 2024), about the complexities of the political scene and the impossible conditions raised by the Kurdish parties in order to participate in the regional government.
The sheikh said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Every political party is clinging to its opinion, so I do not expect the regional government to be formed until March or April of next year."
He added, "According to expectations, the Patriotic Union will exploit the boycott of other Kurdish parties such as the New Generation and the Islamic parties and their non-participation in the government, so the Patriotic Union will try to obtain the greatest possible gains, and for this reason the process of forming the government will be complicated for many months."
Yesterday, Sunday (November 17, 2024), the member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghazi Kakai, identified a fundamental point through which the knot of forming the Kurdistan Regional Government could be ended.
Kakai said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The most important point is to start dialogues between the Kurdish parties, especially between the two main parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union."
He added, "Once the two parties sit at the dialogue table, this means ending the knot and turning the page on the conflict and disagreements that continued throughout the days of the election campaign. Therefore, today we are facing a new phase to restore balance."
Kakai pointed out that, "The previous government in the region did not take into account partnership and balance, and was a government of crises. The new government must be a government of balance, and the main positions must be distributed fairly. We support all the parties that won the elections participating in the government, and taking into account the partisan and regional balance in the main positions."
On October 31, 2024, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, stressed four basic principles for forming the Kurdistan Regional Government, all of which revolve around the unity of the Kurdish ranks, which have suffered and continue to suffer for years from deep divisions as a result of disputes between local parties.
Barzani stressed that "the next Kurdistan Regional Government must be formed according to the principle of one region, one government, and one parliament, with the presence of a unified Peshmerga force."
Barzani's confirmations came after the announcement of the final results of the regional parliament elections by the Federal Election Commission, in which his party came in first among the winning parties.
Barzani said: “The Kurdish parties differed before and after the elections... Now the elections are over and the results have been announced, and it is time for dialogue between all parties. The measure is the electoral entitlement, but what matters most is the formation of the next government in the Kurdistan Region based on the following principles: one region, one parliament, one government, and a unified Peshmerga force.”
Barzani continued: We must work seriously to prevent illegal activities, such as drug production or trafficking laboratories, terrorism, and other acts outside the framework of the law. All of these actions must be stopped. The rule of law must prevail.
The region suffers from the distribution of influence and authority between the Democratic and Patriotic Union parties, which sometimes almost reached the point of threatening to separate the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, which is led by the Union Party, from the region, and for the Erbil and Dohuk Governorates to remain under the administration of the Democratic Party.
