[ltr]The Iraqi Central Bank has decided to stop dealing with the Islamic Bank of Iraq in Iraq and its board chairman Aras Habib after accusing him of financing terrorism by the US Treasury Department.[/ltr]
[ltr]A document issued by the Central Bank of Iraq and addressed to all authorized banks and financial transfer companies and companies to mediate the sale and exchange of foreign currencies to stop dealing with the Bank of the Islamic country.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The Central Bank of Iraq decided to take precautionary measures in view of the inclusion of the Bank of the Islamic Bank and its Chairman (Aras Habib Mohammad) on the list of OFAC (American Assets Control Office) and based on the international agreements signed by the Iraqi side, And to preserve the integrity of the financial and banking system in Iraq. "[/ltr]
[ltr]Among the measures taken by the Iraqi Central is to "(1) stop the bank from entering into the window of sale and purchase of foreign currency and (II) the reservation to all the accounts of the bank and the accounts of the Chairman of the Board referred to above and notified us of those accounts; And shares registered on behalf of the Chairman of the Board.[/ltr]
[ltr]On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department listed Arsab Habib's Islamic Bank of Iraq as a terrorist group.[/ltr]
[ltr]Habib, secretary-general of the National Congress Party and a candidate for Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi's victory coalition, said he had conclusive evidence refuting the US Treasury's "fabrications".[/ltr]
