The Pentagon said its confidence in the Iraqi army was still complete, stressing that relations between the two sides would not change despite the results of the recent elections, while describing Iraqi soldiers as "very good."
"We have very strong relations with the Iraqi security forces," General Joseph Fotel, head of US Central Command, Middle East Operations, told AFP.
"Their soldiers, like our soldiers, are far from politics. They focused on the security of the elections. I think they did a good job, so I'm not worried about our relations with the Iraqi security forces because of the elections," he said.
"The priority for them is to ensure the protection of their people and to improve the capabilities and professionalism of their forces," he said. "The US withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal had no effect on the ground in Iraq."[/rtl]
