Distribution of ration items among citizens during Ramadan

"The company called food agents in Baghdad and the provinces to review the supply centers in order to receive the citizens' quotas of sugar and edible oil for the month of April," said the director general of the General Company for Food Trade, a member of the Committee for the Relief of Displaced Persons in the ministry, Qassim Hamoud. He confirmed that the company succeeded in providing food items within the ration card items, namely: sugar, edible oil, flour and rice, and from local and foreign sources to be distributed among citizens during the holy month. Hamoud stressed that the ministry succeeded in creating good strategic stocks of these foodstuffs, through purchasing them from local markets and importing other materials from the international markets to provide these materials to the citizens, pointing at the same time to the ministry's keenness to deliver these materials to displaced families and liberated cities under the direct supervision of The Committee for the Relief of Displaced Persons formed by the Ministry and its membership includes the Directors General of the Ministry. In the same vein, citizens complained of rising food prices during the holy month of Ramadan, sometimes doubling. Fahim Awfi stressed that the lack of supervision by the relevant official authorities has made food traders control their prices, which negatively affected citizens, especially those with weak incomes, and called on the competent regulatory authorities to activate the control mechanism for local traders. As for the trader Rahim Majbel, he stressed that the increase in demand in the world markets to buy foodstuffs led to the rise of their origins, forcing traders to raise prices on their part. Meanwhile, Wasit province set up committees to monitor food prices in local markets during the month of Ramadan, according to media director Majid al-Atabi. He explained that the local administration has formed a number of committees consisting of the governorate, its council and the chamber of commerce to monitor the prices of foodstuffs, will make field visits to the stores of wholesalers and determine the prices of goods and foodstuffs to reduce the noticeable rise in food prices during the holy month . He pointed out that the committees will work to impose fines and penalties up to the prison and the withdrawal of import licenses against traders who violate the pricing of imported dry food.
