Israel remembers the anniversary of the pharaohs of the Jews in 1941.
"Seventy-seven years ago, on the Jewish holiday of Shvut, in 1941, the events of the Farhud against the Jews were launched in Iraq by a large group of Muslim instigators, as a result of Nazi propaganda."
"During these events, 179 Jews were killed in Baghdad and other places, about two thousand were wounded, and many houses were burned," he said.
The history of the Jews in Iraq dates back about 4000 years and the days of King Nebuchadnezzar, who ruled Babylon.
The main characters in the Baghdad cemetery include Sasson Effendi Haskel, Iraq's first finance minister.
The creation of the State of Israel in 1948 and successive defeats of the Arab armies caused other waves of popular anger and violence against the Jews.
Between 1950 and 1952, some 125,000 Iraqi Jews were flown to Israel, each with a single bag and all forced to abandon Iraqi citizenship.
