US President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to hold a summit meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on Friday, as originally scheduled.
"He is confident that progress will be made in his negotiations with Kim," Trump said in remarks made at the White House Park after meeting with North Korean leader Kim Young-chul. "The parties are keen to reach an agreement."
The US president confirmed his commitment to the North Korean leader's commitment to denuclearization, saying he "looks forward to the day when he will be able to lift sanctions on Pyongyang."
Trump announced his abandonment of the phrase "the greatest possible pressure" against North Korea, because the two countries co-exist, as he put it.
